Fibre Broadband in Bohani and Gadarwara

Bohani now has BSNL fibre to the home. For a village in Gadarwara tahsil, Narsinghpur district, that is a bigger change than it sounds, and it is worth understanding what you are actually getting before you arrange a connection.

What fibre is, and why it is different

Almost everyone in Bohani already has internet through a mobile phone. Fibre is not the same thing arriving faster. It is a different kind of connection.

A mobile signal is shared. Everyone on the tower is drawing from the same capacity, so the connection slows in the evening when the whole village is online, and it drops when the weather is bad or the tower is congested. A fibre line runs from the exchange to your house as a physical cable. What you get does not depend on how many neighbours are streaming.

Mobile data against fibre to the home: a shared tower signal that slows in the evening and varies with weather, against a dedicated cable to the house with steady speed, consistent upload and no daily data limit

The three differences people notice first:

It does not slow down at night. The evening drop that makes video calls freeze is a congestion problem, and a dedicated line does not share that queue.

Upload works properly. Mobile connections are built for downloading. Fibre uploads at a usable speed, which is what matters for a video call, for sending documents, for online classes, and for anyone running a shop or a business that has to upload anything.

There is no daily limit to watch. Mobile plans reset every day and throttle you once the quota is gone. A home broadband plan is measured monthly, at a much larger size.

Who this is for

It is worth it if more than one person in the house uses the internet seriously. Children studying online, anyone working remotely, a shop that needs to run billing or accept digital payments without the connection failing mid transaction, or a household that watches television over the internet rather than a dish.

It is less compelling if the internet is one phone, used occasionally. A mobile pack will be cheaper and simpler.

How to get a connection

Fibre installation in this area goes through a BSNL channel partner rather than directly through a BSNL office. For Bohani and the surrounding Narsinghpur business area, that is:

Mr. Yashwanth, BSNL Udyami partner, Narsinghpur Business Area Phone: 9479472497

He handles the Narsinghpur business area, which covers Bohani, Gadarwara and villages around them. Coverage within that area is not uniform, so the first question is always whether the cable has reached your particular street, not whether it has reached the village.

What to ask before you commit

Has the cable reached my street. Village coverage is laid out in phases. A connection being live in Bohani does not mean it is live at every address. Ask specifically about yours.

What is the installation charge, and what is included. Find out whether the router is included, rented, or bought separately, and whether there is a security deposit.

What is the actual monthly plan. BSNL Bharat Fibre plans change often, and the entry plan is usually very different from what gets quoted first. Ask for the plan name, the monthly amount, the speed, and the monthly data limit, and ask what happens after the limit is crossed.

What is the contract length. Some plans are cheaper annually but lock you in. Ask before paying.

How faults are reported. This is the one people skip and regret. Ask who you call when the line goes down, and how long a repair normally takes in your area. In a village, a fibre cut can take longer to fix than a mobile outage, and knowing the process in advance is worth more than a slightly cheaper plan.

A note on why this matters here

Most internet infrastructure arrives in Madhya Pradesh’s larger towns first and reaches tahsil villages years later, if at all. Bohani getting fibre is not a small upgrade to an existing service. For a lot of households it is the first connection that will hold a video call without dropping.

If you are from Bohani or Gadarwara and you have had a connection installed, I would be glad to hear how it has held up. I write about this area because it is where my family is from.
